It’s barely two months that Vicinity 95.3FM took off in the quiet community of Ikeji Ile in Ijesaland of Osun State. PTL News takes a cursory look into how the Radio Station has fared in the last 60 days.
Vicinity 95.3FM took off on May 1, 2024, and since then it has been progress from one level to another.
Since its take off, the growing lists of listeners have been treated to powerful and impactful programmes from the strong, young and dynamic team led by Winston Akpabio, a veteran broadcaster in his own right who was a former team member and founding staff of Ray Power FM, Lagos.
The Station which began test transmission in May with few hours of the day has taken a giant step by extending to 16 hours between the hours of 6.00am and 22.00pm of the day churning out many inspiring entertaining, informative and educative programmes across board.
Listeners can now enjoy inspirational programmes like early morning prayers and opening formalities followed by wave making breakfast Newspapers Review in Yoruba very early every day, and that leads to Owuro Lawa, another inspirational chit chat audience engaging programme anchored by the duo of energetic and dynamic Fatai Giwa and Mujeeb Olakunle.
There have been other programmes in Yoruba, and English among which are News in Yoruba and English, Sports, Politics, Business, Current Affairs and Grassroot Reports.
Listeners within the neighbouring communities have also been treated with rich presentation in the local dialects in Ijesa, Ekiti and Ikeji tongues. These according to records have been a kind of alluring attraction to the natives far and wide, and this has glued the Ekitis, Ijesas and the home boys and girls from all parts of the world to the various programmes of the radio station.
Many of this has unearthed much information from the cultural heritage of the communities as there have been various presentations into their traditional and historical roots. Subjects like age long old food items and materials in production and preparation, as well as culture and tradition have enjoyed good mentions.
Lovers of religious programmes are not left out. Friday hosts programmes for Muslims with Melodious Islamic songs, and sermons by renowned Islamic leaders and Imams in the locality. Same is enacted on Sunday, and this has been attracting ministers of God in their number.
For these two months, Vicinity FM has proved that it is out to take care of the needs of every listener. From the cradle there is the Kiddies Treat for Children, as there are discussions about the family, traffic, Women Forum, Farmers Platform, and safety for road users are not left out. “There is a programme for every listener,” affirmed Winston Akpabio.
Looking into the next month which launches the radio station into its third month, the General Manager promised listeners more enriching programmes as he called on advertisers to take the advantage of the reach to come and advertise their products and services, as well as programmes and activities for Churches, mosques and various corporate organisations.
“Very soon, provision shall be made to cover live programmes and reportage of programmes and activities outside the broadcasting studio,” he assured.
Since its take off, Vicinity 95.3FM established by Dr. Phillip Abiodun Badewa has played host to many dignitaries in the locality and all walks of life including the traditional ruler of Ikeji Ile kingdom, Oba Adebayo Aiyegbo Ogunmokun, and the Olura of Ira, also in Ikeji Ile, Oba Oluropo Matanmi.
