The final burial of a renown teacher and community leader, Chief Israel Omobayode Omimakinde JP, the Sapetu of Ikeji Ile Ijesa, Osun State took place last weekend. Chief Omimakinde died on March 3, 2024 aged 87 years.

The funeral arrangements began on Friday 31st May, 2024, as his body left Mortuary to his residence, C4 Oke Ode Street, Ikeji Ile Ijesa, Osun State at 9.00am. There was Lying in State, at his residence at 11.00am. Christian Wake Keep, took place later in the day also at his residence, at 4.00pm.

The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 @ St Jude’s Anglican Church, Ikeji Ile Ijesa, at 11.00am. This was followed by Interment at his residence.

It was rounded off with a grand reception at St. Jude’s Primary School Play ground, Ikeji Ile, Ijesa same Saturday.

Pa Omimakinde, a teacher of several years before his meritorious retirement is survived by wives, children, grand children and great grand children.

He will be remembered as a principled disciplinarian, intelligent community leader and a role model to many. May his soul rest in peace.

The funeral events were attended by eminent personalities among which were the former professional colleagues and mentees of the deceased, as well as family members from Ilawe Ekiti, the birth place of his mother, and relatives from Ikeji Arakeji, as well as friends, well-wishers and associates of his children from home and abroad.

During his life time, late Chief Omimakinde worked as a teacher to the level of headmaster in various towns and villages like in Otan Aiyegbaju, Dagbaja, Orisumbare, Esa Oke, Ipetu Ijesa, and his home town, Ikeji Ile.

He also played other active roles as a community leader, politician, and Church administrator.  He was once elected as a Councillor in the old Obokun Local Government Council that later gave rise to the new Oriade and Obokun Local Governments of Osun State. He was Chairman of Parents Teachers Association of Ikeji Ile High School, and also the Secretary of the Parochial Council of St. Jude’s Anglican Church, Ikeji Ile Ijesa.  He held the prestigious title of Justice of Peace from Osun State Government and the Sapetu Chieftaincy of Ikeji Ile Ijesa till he breathed his last.
