Since the world came to the rude shock of the passage of the Man in the Synagogue, and the founder of Nigeria’s Synagogue of all Nations, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, the media space has been replete of different encounters, lessons and discovery which they have with the man and his ministry.

Like any other person, organisation or group, PTL News and yours sincerely have our own measure of interaction with him.
In the 90s we have been making waves as a Christian Newspaper, selling and acknowledged in various Christian meetings, groups and platforms. Just one day like that somebody introduced us to the Synagogue Church.

Then it had not gained all these prominence and popularity. It was like the Church needed to be known, and we went there. It was like we saw the man himself, and he just told us to go and write what we saw.

For almost a day, we were kept in a small room watching television, various clips, live and recorded were shown to us, and we were also made to be part of his healing service both on Wednesday and Sunday. We were fully on ground and we came back with our story which carried the headline Inside The Synagogue Church. The man liked it and it was made available to his Church members and we sold it in large number, and he saw a dependable ally in us.

We began to meet and discuss, and we also continued to cover his programmes and he also went forward to patronise us. Without any doubt we also enjoyed the relationship, because he backed every service with prompt payment, and other moral supports.

As we continued in this relationship, we discovered that some or many of our readers were not too comfortable with our paper again. Some gleefully were very curious to know of our relationship with Prophet T.B. Joshua while some others held us with disdain, getting worried of a kind of sell out.

Wherever I found myself then, I would never hide my likeness for the Synagogue Church and the man in control of the helm of its affairs, to the extent that the people I lived with also knew this.
This of course did not come without its skirmishes. There were other contrary encounters in some other Christian gatherings.
I cannot forget one at Bishop Lawrence Osagie’s Church when he was the Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Lagos State. As usual I always brought PTL news to their meetings for anybody who wanted to buy.

That day I was there and I presented my paper. Hitherto they would collect it, make announcement and allow me to sell. But that current edition carried a story about the man in the Synagogue, and the unusual happened. They collected it, they made no announcement but the did not prevent me from selling it.

At a point one man came up and asked a question to know if T.B. Joshua was of God or of the devil and why they allowed a publication that carried T.B. Joshua to sell at their meeting, and some questions were directed at me, that I was almost dazed. One Prophet Adewale saved the day for me, as he challenged PFN to go and pursue their God ordained callings rather than discussing Prophet T.B. Joshua. That was how I began to lose their patronage however meagre.

Another serious issue I had with the Synagogue and Prophet T.B. Joshua was when he had a very serious misunderstanding with one of his lieutenants then in person of one Brother Solomon Ozi David who later left him to found his Church. He also became a prophet.

The man had left peacefully, but the relationship later turned sower and a very serious misunderstanding set in. Bro Solomon came to us to do the story. We put him on record and it would be explosive and exclusive stories.

At the end of it all, I prevailed on my team to try to intervene in their feud rather than publishing the damaging interviews and revelations rendered by Brother Solomon. This did not go well with my staff and members of my team.

The outcome almost brought PTL News to its knee. Unknown to me that my associates had gone to arrange for a new publication which debuted with Prophet Solomon’s interviews, I was only to see their publication later on the newsstand. That marked a very serious trying time for PTL News, it took God’s grace for us to survive it.

To us, Prophet T.B. Joshua was another man created and sent by God to do His work, and this he did to the best of his ability.
The man rose from a very humble background, with nothing to something and from nobody to somebody. He did not stop at that but allowed himself to be used for the growth and development of others especially the less privileged ones.

He lived his life as a very generous, kind and caring leader doing the bidding of his creator. As a pastor he was able to lead many who would have been discarded by other ministers to God, and they inturn became useful instruments in the hand of God.

He was a man who used his knowledge and all resources at his disposal for all mankind without any special consideration to their faith, race or background. We join millions of his followers, sympathisers and admirers to mourn his departure and declare his precious soul to rest in perfect peace.
