Text: Numbers 27:18, 22
We have heard so much about Effective leadership, but it also takes Productive Followers who follow effectively and productively for leadership to have good results.
Every assignment carries responsibility and to be successful there must be trusted followers. Success is the major focus and ultimate desire of every leader. And this can only be determined by the people around you or your followership John 6: 38-39, 66-68; Josh. 1:5-7.
To be productive means “capable of producing something especially in abundance, fertile; it also means yielding good or useful results.”
By followership we mean “adherence to a leader, that is a close physical union of two people. One is the leader and the other the follower. Age has nothing to do in followership as we can see the case of Elijah and Elisha, Jesus and Apostle Peter.
It is possible to have faithful followers and unfaithful followers as we saw in the case of Moses and Joshua (faithful follower) and Jesus Christ and Judas (unfaithful follower).
HOW DO YOU FOLLOW A LEADER FOR MUTUAL BENEFIT?
The major assignment of Jesus to mankind was multiplied through productive discipleship.
(1)Through unwavering commitment, Ruth 1: 16-18; Rom. 8:35-39. You must understand the vision and mission of the leader you follow and be ready to work towards its accomplishment Joshua 11:15.
(2)You do not follow a leader by perishable commitment. John 6: 27-27; John 4: 27, 31-34. Productive followers do not follow for personal enrichment but for effective ministry fulfillment.
(3) Unsolicited commitment IIKings 2: 3-5. You do not follow your leader because he wants you to, it’s a choice you made not a gift.
(4) Strong relationship (II Kings 6: 5-6; Exod. 33:11). Relationship is the core value of any achievement in life and ministry, relationships provide for strong team work and excellent results.
(5) Continuous learning on the assignment (Pro. 15:14). You must understand your role as co-labourer in fulfilling the assignment.
(6) Faithfulness and Loyalty.
These and several other reasons can contribute to making productive leadership.
