Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God has spoken on why there are politics among the rank and file of Church leadership. Pastor Adeboye replied to this recently in a reaction to an answer raised by his son, Pastor ‘Leke Adeboye, in a youth conference of the Church, as monitored by PTL News from YouTube.
Answering to a question that asked about “what step could be taken to reduce leadership politics and in-fighting among the Senior Pastors in the mission, and how can the leaders be held accountable to prevent discouragement among the next generation.”
The octogenarian cleric who described the question as a very serious one answered, “All we can do is to remind these church leaders that our number one goal as members of RCCG Pastors, or no pastors is to make heaven. If these people forget heaven and begin to play politics, it will be sad, that they are leaders on earth and end up leaders in hell. We can only tell them the truth. We can’t force it into their brain. We have seen top leaders forgetting their original goals.
“Because if I am going to heaven that is my number one goal, you are also going to heaven, I don’t see me fighting you, we will be partners in progress, but if one is going to heaven and the other deviated from the narrow path, that is where the problem comes.
“All we can do is to remind them and this is one of the reasons that the theme of our coming convention is Heaven. This will guide them because people have lost focus of heaven. The bible asks of what does not profit a man to gain the whole world and loses his own soul.”
He added, “God is not a democrat. God is not in the definition of democracy which is the government of the people by the people and for the people. You will not find democracy in heaven because where there is democracy, automatically there will be politics. If you don’t allow God to rule through you in His Church, you will have Him to deal with. He says I will build My Church and the gate of hell will not prevail against it. If you try to be the gate of hell in His Church, He will know how to deal with you. There is nothing we can do, politicians will be politicians and they will pay the price at the right time.”
In conclusion, the story indicates there are politics among church leaders in the Redeemed Church and other big denominations.
