Hilda Baci 100 Hours, Chef Dammy 120.

Two Nigerian girls have taken the world by the storm by sharing their cooking strength with the world in a global marathon cooking contest with the approval of the global rating body Guinness World Records.

These are Chef Hilda Baci Effiong and Damilola Adeparusi aka Cheff Dammy.

Hilda Baci staged her display in Lagos in May 11 to 14, 2023 while Dammy came out within a space of a month in Ilupeju, Ekiti State from 12noon Friday June 9 through 1.00am Wednesday June 14, 2023.

Early Wednesday, Damilola Adeparusi, a 200 Level Student of Federal University of Technology, Oye in Ekiti State completed a task of cooking spanning 120 hours.

Hers was a follow up to a similar task carried out by Hilda Baci, another young chef who also completed a similar task in 100 hours.

Their target was to win a global world acknowledged competition supervised by Guinness World Record.

In a release on Tuesday, Hilda Baci’s contest has been upheld, confirmed and certified by Guinness World Record.

In their citation GWR wrote,

“Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.

“The 26-year-old Nigerian chef began on Thursday 11 May and continued through to Monday 15 May, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint.

Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.

As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken. They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.

The previous record of 87 hours 45 minutes was set by Lata Tondon (India) in 2019.

Hilda attempted this record to “put Nigerian cuisine on the map” and “to inspire young African women to chase their dreams.”

“I also decided to break this record to truly push my limits and test my abilities,” she added.

Hilda prepared for the event by creating a 35-item menu “as a guide” for every meal that she would cook.

Damilola Adeparusi now popularly known as Chef Dammy rounded off her cooking marathon at about 1.00am Nigerian time.

Dammy from her looks began her race in a typical simple and humble African kitchen reeling out exquisite African delicacies.

Meanwhile, she has enjoyed the support of her pastor Minister Jeremiah Adegoke, her fellow students of Federal University of Technology, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti natives home and abroad including the Governor of the state Abiodun Oyebanji and his wife, Oluyemi.

Damilola was also visited by the Vice Chancellor Professor Abayomi Fasina, and management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti.

Damilola Adeparusi with the Vice Chacellor of her University, Prof. Sunday Fasina and other Management Staff of the .University,

In a statement via her Twitter handle Damilola wrote, “120hrs done! I want to appreciate you all for your support emotionally, financially, physically and spiritually… If not for you guys I wouldn’t be able to achieve this.

One prominent feature of Dammy’s adventure was the recognition of God by words of prayers, praises and the presence of her Pastor Minister Jeremiah Adegoke of Spirit Word Global Mission, based in Ilupeju Ekiti, Ekiti State of Nigeria.

Excited Pastor Adegoke, also in his remarks showed his appreciation to all that made the exercise eventful.

“With Chefdammy until the very end. The support was really massive from everyone, Spirit Word Family, Fuoye celebrities, influencers and students, Ilupeju Ekiti indigenes, all Ekiti influencers from home and abroad, the Governor of Ekiti and his beautiful wife, and everyone!”

As it stands, if confirmed by the GWR, Chef Dammy will become the new world record holder.

However, it is doubtful if Guinness World Records would accept Dammy’s contest because she did not go through the appropriate process.

The Guinness World Records said it did not receive an application regarding the cookathon that ended in Ekiti State.

But the 21 year old ambitious and courageous girl has been commended for her boldness to take up such a challenge.

While some people condemned her action for taking up the challenge so soon even before the confirmation and verification of Hilda’s contest, some others have also commended her courage, noting that her efforts have taken her to another level of her life.

Damilola Adeparusi aka Cheff Dammy has promised to launch out another contest very soon, now targeting a One hundred and fifty hours (150) marathon cooking contest.
