The Lagos State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has formally come under the chairmanship of Bishop Stephen Adegbite of the Methodist Church. Bishop Adegbite who was elected last December was inaugurated on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the annual Inter Denominational Divine Service organised by the body in Lagos.

The inauguration which had in attendance the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu also attracted people from the government, business and as well as individual and private persons.

At the inauguration the Governor of Lagos State, charged Christian leaders to use their position to preach and promote peace in the society.

Governor Sanwo-Olu took the advantage of the gathering to call for caution among faith leaders and opinion moulders against utterances that may further aggravate the security crises facing the nation.

The governor speaking on the state of the nation said the nature of the crises that has almost engulfed the whole country required all notable leaders of men to refrain from making comments that could stoke divisions and violence, stressing that a crisis in Nigeria would be catastrophic for Africa.

At the event Governor Sanwo-Olu and other eminent Nigerians from the state were installed as the Patron of the Christian body the State. Also, lawmaker representing Lagos Central in the Senate, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, was named the Matron of the association, while Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi appointed as Grand Matron.

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola aka YAYI, and Sir Chief Olu Okeowo, KJW were appointed as PATRONS in recognition of their philanthropic supports for many churches in Lagos and across the country in many areas.

The host, Bishop STV Adegbite who was also the chairman of the newly inaugurated executive in his welcome address thanked God and all the guests that made the event possible.

He drew the attention of the distingushed audience to the new secretarait of the Association in Lagos. According to him, “God is about to do something new about our SECRETARIAT. He has told me clearly that this shall be achieved very, very soon. We shall have our own place built on the land at Jobi Fele Way, Alausa, Ikeja given to us by the Former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure by the special grace of God,” as he asked for prayers and works to keep hope alive.

Also at the event were eminent persons both from the government and the church including the National President of CAN, Rev. Dr. Olasupo Ayokunle, the South West Chairman of CAN, Very Reverend Father Raphael Osegboun, the Prelate of the Methodist Church in Nigeria, His Eminence, Samuel Chukwuemeka Kalu Uche, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State, Chief Mrs. Fadekemi otitolaiye who represented Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and a host of others.

The annual Inter-Denominational Divine Service of the Lagos Chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria was held at The Apostolic Church Auditorium, LAWNA Ground, Olorunda, Ketu, Lagos.

The service had A New Beginning, A New Dawn & A New Glory as the theme.

Bishop Adegbite took over from Apostle Alexander Bamigbola. The new Executive has Rev. Abel Asubiaro as the Vice Chairman, Rev. Father Matthew Ogunyase as Secretary, Pastor Dickson Asaaju as Assistant Secretary, and Apostle Opasola as the Treasurer.
