The national body of Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria is all set to host the 40th anniversary of the association. The celebration is slated for Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th October, 2024.
The celebration which has Soaring Higher as its theme is expected to feature Street Praise, Recognition Awards, and Fund Raising for the National Secretariat of the association.
While the event of the 16th holds at the Shepherd Flock International Church, Ikeja at 2.00pm, the Thursday activities hold at Lagos Country Club, 2, Joel Ogunnaike Street, Off Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Abule Onigbagbo Bus Stop, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
Sharing an insight with PTL News days before the event, the National President, Evangelist Phillip Olayiwola aka Pholat, explained that the celebration was to appreciate the faithfulness of God in their life and various ministries.
According to him, “even if we have not seen much, our God has been very faithful. In spite of personal, ministerial and national challenges, we are grateful to God that the association still remains one strong and a hopeful family.”
He spoke further, “That we are alive is enough to appreciate God for hitherto He has helped us, and we will use it to re-orientate ourselves as members, foster love and preach peace within and without, and especially among brothers and sisters as well as Christians and non-Christians.
“Many people listen to our music for moral and spiritual reasons. The celebration will afford us the opportunity to appreciate them, as they are patronizing, loving and listening to our music. We know we are not where we are supposed to be but we will pray that God takes us to His promised land. God has been doing His part, but we have not been doing our part well. We need to learn more and do more”
“Our goal as an association is to restructure, rebrand and reposition GOMAN at the end of this celebration. God knows and appreciates unity of purpose. We believe if we are united we will be able to achieve great feats. If we can come together and become one, there is nothing we cannot do. At the end of the celebration, our goal is to soar higher, taking a cue from our theme for the anniversary, Soaring Higher. God will help us to achieve that.”
On what Pholat and his team are doing about the preparation for the anniversary, Evangelist Phillip Olayiwola has this to say, “We are putting things together. We will hold seminar on the state of gospel music in Nigeria. We plan to appreciate some of our past leaders in a little way with awards. There will be investiture of our patrons and advisers, so that the association will bounce back to what it used to be.
“During the anniversary celebration, we will raise fund to get land for our national secretariat and build it. We need our national secretariat in Lagos and Abuja. Every state must have its secretariat.”
Evang. Olayiwola who acknowledged the support of his predecessors believed they could do more to help the association to accomplish its set goals, disclosed that “they are still members and they relate well with me.”
He added, “My message to our members is to get prepared for the harvest of the anniversary. After the anniversary, I want to see my members to be transformed, I want them to show more commitment to the cause of gospel musicians, so that we can truly get to where we are going. We need not to be stagnant, because it is the stagnant water that smell not flowing water. At the end of the celebration, I want to see GOMAN members flying with decent and befitting offices where everything and everybody will work perfectly well.”
