On Sunday June 6, 2021, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, the amiable leader, well respected General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry clocked 80 solid years.
Born on June 6, 1941 by parents from the quiet town of Erin Ijesa of the present Osun State, Pastor Kumuyi through his well polished and eloquently researched messages of the gospel has been able to attract millions of souls, of the high and low to the side of Christ.
It was no surprise then to see how the good works of the cleric were acknowledged across the world on the occasion of the celebration of his four score in the land of the living.
In a modest thanksgiving on Sunday was the Lagos state governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu and his Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Emmanuel Udom honouring the man of God with their presence.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his compliment, who described Pastor Kumuyi as “my leader, my daddy,” and a true man of God, who speaks and “nations listen,” expressed the hope that despite the insecurity the nation was confronting, he believed God would intervene and resolve the problem.
In his own remark, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, acknowledged that Deeper Christian Life Ministry had impacted Nigeria from the church’s early days, commending the celebrant for being consistent in his message of holiness.
“At times people wonder, how come Nigeria is going through all this and we are still as strong as we are? Once you see things like this happen, know that people are standing in the gap. Certainly one of them is our father in the Lord, making things to stabilise,” he explained.
In the same vein, the President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with Pastor Kumuyi, as he turned 80 June 6, 2021.
The President felicitates with the family of the renowned preacher, members of the Deeper Life Bible Church, and Christendom in general, wishing the “spiritual General” greater service to God and humanity, “in good health and sound mind.”
President Buhari recalled his 2018 meeting with Pastor Kumuyi and wife, Esther, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the warmth they radiated, and their love and prayers for country, urging younger preachers to take a cue, and intercede for Nigeria and people in positions of authority, as God’s word enjoins.
As Pastor Kumuyi reaches the milestone, the President prayed that his vision for the country will be realized, and the works of his hands will continue to prosper.
One of the high points of the event was a youth presentation. Some youths of the Church brought more light on the Sunday service at the Church headquarters at Gbagada, Lagos State, as they played musical instruments in celebration of the 80th birthday of the General Superintendent of the church, Pastor William Kumuyi.
The celebrant who preached on the topic, ‘Our Glowing Privileges from Grace to Glory,’ opined that long life should be measured by the fulfilment of purpose on earth.
He said, “When you finish everything God has appointed for you to do, that is long life. That is why we don’t question, ‘But so and so died at 57,’ for her, that was a long life. Or you say, ‘So and so died at 72,’ for him, that was long life. For you, it is not the number; it is the appointment of God, what he has ordained that you will do. Once you finish and a reward is waiting for you in heaven, we glorify God on your behalf because that is long life,” he added.
