It was an atmosphere of wild and exciting jubilation at the quiet town of Ila Odo on Thursday 6th May, 2021 at the formal coronation and presentation of Instruments and Staff of Office to the new traditional ruler of the town, His Royal Highness Oba Pastor Benjamin Ajibade Olorundunsin Abiona Ilufemiloye I, Olujobi II, as the Onila of Ila Odo, in Odo Otin Local Government of Osun State.
The event was witnessed by government representatives, traditional rulers, proud sons and daughters of the community and their friends, as well as well-wishers of the celebrating community.
Preparatory to the auspicious occasion, the town had been made colourful by the youth of the town with beautiful decorations of important junctions and roads leading to Ila Odo as well as the venue and the king’s palace.
The day also was made colourful by the indigenes and their friends wearing different types of uniforms to reflect the mood of the day. The event was also made more colourful as different indigenous groups, age grades and well wishers come to make salutations to the traditional ruler.
The event of the day was kick started with prayers after the arrival of various dignitaries including government representatives, royal fathers and distinguished guests of the day. Among the important guests were the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Adeleke Yekini Adebayo, Hon. Rasaq Adegboyega Adeosun, the Special Adviser, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Adebisi Elizabeth Oluwatoyin, The Council Manager, Odo Otin North LCDA, Oyan.
The Royal fathers were led by a no less father than the Olokuku of Okukuland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Abioye Oyebode JP Oluronke II, accompanied by the Oloyan of Oyan, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kilani Adekeye Oyedare Oluyeye II, and other neighbouring traditional rulers in the neighbourhood.
In their various speeches delivered at the event the Oba Abiona was congratulated for mounting the prestigeous throne of his fathers with the expectations that he would perform to the best of his ability, as there were clarion calls for the sons and daughters of ila Odo to come and develop the community.
The high point of the event came when the formal coronation and presentation of the staff of office was performed by the Olokuku of Okuku after which the Onila Traditional Council came forward to pay homage to their new king.
Other highlights were cultural displays, gun salutes and presentation of gifts to Oba Abiona.
In his appreciation and coronation remarks, the Onila Ila Odo, Oba Abiona who began by expressing his appreciation to the Almighty God, the good people of Ila Odo and the government of Osun State for making the day a reality, as he called on the illustrious sons and daughters of the town to come and develop Ila Odo in establishing higher institutions, factories and manufacturing industries in the town.
Under his reign, Ila odo is destined to rise and be counted among the leading cities of Nigeria, with establishments of higher institutions and manufacturing industries that will send their products beyond the shores of Nigeria and Africa. That is why I am sent by divine authorities. It is a divine mandate” said Oba Abiona, as he advocated mutual love, hard work and integrity to move the community forward.
Oba Abiona was also full of promises for both the indigenes and non indigenes of the town.
The new Ila Odo is with us now come and let us share the prosperity together. The prosperity is there untapped. Let us come as one community and exploit our wealth. All are waiting for the sons and daughters of Ila Odo, men and women, boys and girls to tap. Come and let’s bury our hatchets and work together for the prosperity of Ila Odo.
The event was well concluded with entertainment for the guests both at the event ground and Onila palace.
