President Buhari, VP Osinbajo, Governor Kayode Fayemi, Bishop Wale Oke, Others Pay Tributes

Messages of condolences have been pouring into the Foursquare Gospel Church over the transition of its past General Overseer, Dr. Wilson Adebogun Badejo. Rev. Dr. Badejo died on Saturday August 8, 2021 at 74 years.

The death of Dr. Badejo who was the former General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church was announced by the National Secretary of the Church, Reverend Yomi Oyinloye, in a statement. Rev. Badejo was the General Overseer of the Church between 1999 and 2009.

According to the Church, Dr. Badejo passed on following a brief illness.

The statement which described the deceased as “a great achiever, an accomplished servant of God, a role model, bridge-builder, mentor, teacher par excellence, an apostle and a respected family man,” announced the death of the amiable and well respected cleric.

“Dr. Badejo, a trained veterinary doctor before moving to the pulpit served the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria in several ministerial capacities, crowning his stewardship at the apex as the General Overseer of the Church from 1999 to 2009.

“He was a man of many parts who was able to unlock socio-cultural gateways, and in the process successfully endeared several friends and loved ones from all walks of life across the divide.”

The statement read that though the church was saddened by the demise of the servant of God, it encouraged members to take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilling, God-fearing, and impactful life.

While calling for prayers for the family of the deceased and the Foursquare Gospel Church, it stated that the late Christian leader left behind an indelible mark in the heart of everyone who came his way.


In a similar development leaders across all walks of life have been paying glowing tributes to the good works and fond memories of the late Christian leader.

Bishop Francis ’Wale Oke, the President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has described the death of Wilson Badejo as a shocking and significant loss to the Christian community.The PFN president, in a condolence message in Ibadan said Dr. Badejo gave his all to the service of the Lord while alive.

He noted that his dedication enhanced the spread of the gospel to nations of the world.

The PFN President who is also the presiding Bishop of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Ibadan, expressed the belief that “For everyone, death is a garb that will be worn by all at the appointed time” added that Dr. Badejo lived a worthy life and would remain a challenge to the living.

“Rev. Wilson Badejo was a strong-willed man who pursued righteousness till he breathed his last. Though humanly speaking, one wouldn’t have wanted him to go now; however, God is the ultimate decider of ‘when’ for everybody,” he noted.

Bishop Wale Oke who lamented that many in society still behaved as if they would never leave the earth said that death should always serve as a lesson of reminder that nobody would live in the world forever.

“In the case of Rev. Badejo, our joy and solace is that, having fought a good fight of faith, he has gone to rest with our Lord Jesus Christ. That’s what every Christian should work towards and crave for,” the renowned cleric said.

While commiserating with the family, Foursquare Church and the Christian body in the country, the PFN president prayed that God would grant everyone concerned the fortitude to bear Dr. Badejo’s transition to glory.

The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has also paid condolence visit to the family of the former General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, the late Revd Wilson Badejo.

The Vice President visited the home of Dr. Wilson Badejo to personally deliver his messages of condolence.

At the Yaba residence of the Badejos, where he was received by the deceased’s wife, Rev. Mrs Yinka Badejo, Prof. Osinbajo described the late cleric, as ‘an exceptional man of God.’

The Vice President described Revd Badejo as a promoter of the gospel who worked for both the physical and spiritual transformation of societies.

According to the vice president, Dr. Badejo ‘was certainly a man of integrity, a man who served God with all his strength and a man who truly loved God and the gospel of Jesus Christ.’

The VP noted that the late cleric “was also someone who believed that the gospel is for social transformation, besides the spiritual, and he carried the message that the gospel is meant to transform societies and the people physically, as well as spiritually” also was him as “One of a kind.”

Professor Osinbajo also wrote a short tribute in the condolence register at the residence.

“We bless the name of the Lord for the life and times of one of His general, our father in the Lord, Revd. Dr. Wilson Badejo. We thank him for the great work of the gospel that he did and we now celebrate such an excellent life of service. Blessed be the name of the Lord,’ he said.

While praying for God to console and strengthen the family, Prof. Osinbajo also an ordained pastor prayed that God preserved the legacy left by the late man of God, noting that “he has left a great legacy indeed, and a tremendous legacy that we are proud of.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has also sent his heartfelt condolence to the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria family, and christendom in general, over the passage of Rev. Wilson Badejo.

The president, in a statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, described the departed as “a dedicated servant of God who led the Foursquare Gospel Church for 10 years.”

He noted that the deceased was “committed to standing in the gap for not just his organisation, but also for Nigeria as a whole.”

Buhari prayed that God would comfort the entire Badejo family.

He urged the family to take solace in the fact that their father, a veterinary doctor, author, cleric, and public speaker, set a standard to be emulated by all and sundry.

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has described late Dr. Wilson Badejo, a former General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church as an exemplary leader.

Dr. Fayemi, in a message of condolence in Ado-Ekiti signed by Mr. Yinka Oyebode, his Chief Press Secretary, said such attribute endeared the deceased to the people.

Dr. Fayemi said Rev. Badejo was an exemplary leader who endeared himself to many people as a worthy role model and spiritual leader.

The governor described the late clergyman as a highly revered man of God, saying he was a no -nonsense preacher who preached the Gospel with “much grace and candour”.

He said the veterinary doctor turned preacher made very remarkable impact in his ministerial duties while his tenure as the overseer of the church lasted.

“He continued making impact afterwards through his foundation and involvement in several humanitarian activities,” the governor said.

The Governor described Badejo’s death as a great loss to the Christian community across the globe.

He said it was a personal loss considering the relationship that existed between him and the deceased.
