Rising from their three-day annual conference of Kingdom Men Global Network recently, Rev. Dr. Remi Akano, a media guru turned cleric and the missioner of Network has called on government and Non-governmental organisations to declare a state of emergency and special commission for men to take care of the needs of boys and men in the society.

He noted that men play crucial roles in the society, but the government rather than helping boys, young men and adults to grow, more emphasis are being laid on girls and women, the trend which has been responsible for the waning impacts of men in the society.

According to them, while women and the girl-child have been making great impacts both in their studies and career, most men who end up as leaders in the home have been failing to meet up to their responsibilities.

Rev. Remi Akano, a Pastor with the Christ Chapel International (CCIC), a veteran journalist and public affairs commentator, and the host of the summit noted that the huge amount of money spent on women and children does not work because men who are the head of the family is ignored from the arrangement.

It was believed that while the global and national systems give prominence to the Women and Girl-Child, a similar if not a more important attention should also be given to boy-child and men.

Men’s Commission

“We love the women, we love the children, but when attention is not given to the man, we may not get to the root of the problem. The challenges we face as men are responsible for why most boys don’t want to go to school and why men don’t go for training any more.”

In another discourse, it was emphasized that the choice the people make as a nation would determine what the country would look like, and therefore called “for the need to reawaken the power of morals and strengthen societal values.”

We have got to make the right choices for the sake of our nation.

It was also pointed out that it was because the church was not structured to solve the problems in the homes and society that brings to importance the need for organisations like Kingdom Men’s Global network to take care of the needs of the men and boys in the society.

“The world has problems, men are the problems and men are the solutions. Men must be trained to be real men. We are where we are because men are not trained and developed to the required status to influence the society positively.”

They also pointed out that if boys were not properly trained, it was not impossible that a well-trained girl could fall into the hands of untrained or not properly trained men.

“Men should go back to their different homes and take responsibility as the heads of their families physically and spiritually. Fathers should play the roles of fathers, boys should be trained to be responsible morally and get trained as future fathers and husbands,” they advised.

“Men are called to lead conversations, prayers, sharing the word of God, funding and creation of relevant materials for building the total man,” they concurred.

Dr. Akano added that this was an area where ISI, an acronym for Iron Sharpeneth Iron comes in. ISI according to him provides opportunities for members to share knowledge and compare notes among one another to help men to live as real men in the home, in business place and the larger society.

At the summit, men were advised to make the right choices as most choices they make would always reflect on the home, the business environment, polity and the society at large.

Speaking as a guest, the former Chairman of Pfizer and a former Presidential Candidate in the last General Election in Nigeria, Mazi Sam Ohuanbuwa called on men to make the right choices, noting that, “the choice we make are critical in what determines our future, and when the consequences come we should be fair enough to own up.

“As Christians, we are ministers in the market place, and when we want to make decisions as men, we should make decisions based on prayer, using his life examples, he told the stories of how the choices he made at different stages of his life made him what he became today.

In spite of what Nigerians are currently passing through the business guru assured Nigerians of hope in the place of despair and confusion, saying, “God cannot lie, He can intervene through human agents and circumstances, God is not done with Nigeria, if only Christians can come together and pray, there is still hope of better life.”

Other issues that prominently featured at the summit was the role of men in the home and the larger society, the emerging consensus at the end of the summit was that the society should give more concerns to the place of men in the society.

The conference which attracted notable speakers had Choices…. Consequences, Outcomes and Destinies as the theme, and some of the issues discussed bothered on the role of men in Leadership and School of Men’s Ministry, discussions on Politics and Governance, the impact of the Social Media in the Society, as well as Men in Business and Economy.
