The annual New Year Thanksgiving Service of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Chapter was held on Thursday January 14, 2021 at the sprawling auditorium of Celestial Church of Christ, Horeb Cathedral Ikeja II.
The thanksgiving service was well attended by religious and political leaders from within and outside the local government. Among the dignitaries at the classy event were the Chairman of Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Hon. Dr. Oloruntoba Oke, Hon. Pastor James Adisa Owolabi of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Afikuyomi, Hon. Smith Olusesi, Mr. Gbenga Stephen the Divisional Police Officer of Iju Division of the Nigerian Police, Hon. Adeleye, Hon. Rotimi and a host of others.
Represented were the Senator Representing Lagos West Senatorial Constituency, Adeola Olamilekan Solomon, and Hon Rasheed Makinde, Member Lagos State House of Assembly, Ifako Ijaiye Constituency.
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of the Chapter Messenger Prophet Dr. Olubode Sobukola intimated the distinguished guests of the need to assist the association in getting land to build the chapter’s Secretariat.
Also in his message, the Guest Speaker, Pastor Dele Asaaju commended the Chapter for staging a beffiting thanksgiving service with the hope of uniting Christians in the local government but charged them more to close ranks with their muslim counterparts, and the government should give fair deals to all religious groups in the local government so that they could continue to sustain the prevailing peace in the local government and Lagos State by extension.
“The Bible tells us to pursue peace with all men, and if we pursue peace with all men, there will be lasting peace in Nigeria. As Christians we must pursue peace with all men before we can bring them to Christ. The responsibility before government at all levels in Nigeria is to pursue peace with all men. If the federal government pursued peace there will be peace in Nigeria, and there will be progress.
He also told political leaders to ensure more peace by making sure that they provide food for all categories of Nigerians. When Nigerians are fed, they would be able to work and plan and Nigeria would be better for it.
The annual calendar was later presented and the dignitaries in turn picked and launched it.
The programme was later rounded off with thanksgiving sessions.
Also in attendance were Christian leaders, male and female, including the CAN officials at the local level which has Rev. Dr. Festus Odeyemi as the Secretary, Bro Callistus Ukachukwu as Deputy Coordinator, Deaconess O.A. Akinyemi as Treasurer, and Rev. Prof. Samson Omojola as Assistant Secretary.
The Chapter also has Rev. Father Kuti Y.A. Immanuel RJP representing CPFN-PFN Bloc as Director of Planning, Research and Strategy, Mrs. Roseline A. Dansu of CSN as Director Ecumenism and Inter-faith, Princess Simisola Sanusi CCN as Director Local Issues and Social Welfare, M/C M.O. Oyegbami of AOIC as Director Education, Youth and Women Empowerment, and Barrister Titilayo Akinyemi as Director, Lagal Issues and Public Affairs.
Other Church leaders at the programme were Ven. Felix A. Adeoye, Sup. Evang. Pro Tayo Oshodi, Rev. Father Patrick-Mary C. Azubuinye, Pastor Babatunde Alo, Rev. (Dr). S.S. Adepitan, Lady Evang. Esther Fagbuyi, Canon O. Oladele, Ap. Gbenga Akindele and ably represented was Rev. (Dr.) J.S.A. Oladele, a Patron of the Association.
