A United Kingdom Court has once again pronounced judgement against MS Maureen Badejo a UK based Nigerian blogger in a defamation case between her and Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Mountain Ministries.
Maureen Badejo has been taken to court over her defamatory brodacast against the person, ministry and family of the founder of the MFM.
Aspects of those broadcasts which pertained to The General Overseer and his wife Shade Olukoya were filed as a suit in the High Court of London in the Strand, Queen’s Bench Division.
The judge pronounced judgement by granting an order of perpetual injunction restraining her from publishing defamatory words against or concerning the persons of the cleric, his wife and his Church.
In an information made available by the headquarters of the Church through its social media handle, shared by many members of the Church, ostensibly celebrating the victory, it was revealed that a judgment was pronounced on Tuesday April 13, 2021 in which the Court granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining Maureen Badejo from publishing defamatory words against or concerning the Plaintiffs and ordered her to pay the legal costs incurred by the Olukoyas in the suit.
The statement read in part, “From the evening of 20th August 2020, one Maureen Badejo has been having a field day broadcasting all manners of falsehood against this Church, its General Overseer and his family, Pastors and members.
“Aspects of those broadcasts which pertained to The General Overseer and Mummy GO were filed as a suit in the High Court of London in the Strand, Queen’s Bench Division. In the course of the hearing which was listed at 10.30 am and concluded at 1.05 pm today, April 13, 2021, the evidence was so overwhelming that even Maureen Badejo’s lawyer conceded that her remarks in all those broadcasts were “serious and defamatory”
It was explained further that “some aspects of those publications which pertained to MFM International and Dr. Olukoya were ventilated in a court case before the High Court of Ogun State, Abeokuta in Suit No. AB/407/2020 in which Judgment was entered in favour of MFM and our General Overseer.”
The erudite Judge opined in his judgment thus “…it is overwhelmingly clear that the nature of this defamation is severe and serious…..and that the number of publications is considerable.”
However, Maureen Badejo had filed a counter-claim to demand compensation allegedly lost by her from the shutting down of some of her broadcasts by YouTube and Facebook sequel to complaints from Dr. Olukoya’s lawyers. The claim was dismissed by the judge as a frivolous claim, and branded it an abuse of process.
“The London case will continue for the Court to forensically determine the quantum of damages to be awarded to Dr. and Mrs. Olukoya for these defamations,” the statement added.
Justice Abiodun Akinyemi of an Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta has earlier slammed N500 million damages against the United Kingdom-based blogger, Maureen Badejo, for libellous publications against the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (Worldwide), Dr. Daniel Olukoya, and the Church.
The Court also granted “a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant by herself, her agents, servants, privies or other persons howsoever called or described from further making, publishing and/or disseminating defamatory stories and statements about the claimants or any one of them.”
The Judge described the report as the worst case of reckless defamation and evil use of the internet and social media.
Badejo, the anchorperson in the Facebook-GIO TV, had published what the Incorporated Trustees of the MFM and Olukoya described as 52 lies.
Meanwhile, it has been a harvest of jubilations by the members of the Mountain of Fire and miracles ministry thanking God for the victory granted to their spiritual father and the Church.
On this Timothy Ojonugwa Inabo wrote on the social media handle of the Church, “Who can battle with the Lord.Nobody.Daddy you are a Man of an extra ordinary character and God will continue to protect preserve and provide all your needs to the glory of God.Thank God for the wisdom of handling this matter. We love you and will continue to do so.God bless you sir.”
